The Adventures of

Buddy & Max 3 – In the Dark

One day when the man was gone, shopping

Buddy & Max with a ball they were, swapping

They slept most of, the morning

Did not hear the, storm warning

Who had the ball was all they were, thinking

Slowly the day began to look, more like night

The weather outside gave them a, little fright

            Then thunder, could be heard

            Neither one, said a word

And then the day got brighter with a, flash of light

Lightning was not what scared, them the most

The crash of thunder made them stiff, as a post

They used their paws to, plug their ears

Loud noises were their, biggest fears

They wondered if this could, be a ghost

There were two of them and, just one storm

They huddled together to be, safe and warm

            Puppies, together

            Through bad, weather

They prayed the storm would do, them no harm

Then they both ran and jumped, on the man’s bed

What else could happen to them, went thru their head

They panicked and trembled, in fear

They hope the man could only, be here

Then Max once again remembered what, the man had said

“You be good doggies while, I’m gone away

And I will bring a toy, for you today

            Without bad, intention

            If I got your, attention

And you be good doggies while, I’m gone away”

But Max was scared of the noise and, started to prance

He was so scared he trembled and almost, peed his pants

They did not know, what they could do

To stop the storm they, wanted it through

They were both so scared they were like, in a trance

Then Buddy the bigger chicken-dog, of the two

Said to Max “You know what we, forgot to do?”

“We just jumped up here, on the bed

We didn’t look under it, first instead

What lies and waits under the bed, wonder who”

Now even when the man, was sleeping

Both dogs would always do, a peeping

Under the bed to see if, it was unsafe

To lay on the top sheet, and be safe

Something could come out at, them leaping

Best to always look under, there first

Then you have no fear of, the worst

            Of something in, the dark

            Spooking puppies, to bark

Causing their excitement, to burst

Then Buddy remembered hearing, the man saying

You are always safe in, the dark while praying

To God for his hand, a guiding

            Through this thunder, and lightning

So whatever was under the bed, there it was staying

Then there was a great flash of lightning, and more thunder

The puppies shook together, scared and wondered

If and when will ever, the man get home

Together neither one liked, being alone

Buddy & Max to the bed, they went under

The weather had just taken, out the power

The wind blew and then came, the rain shower

Buddy & Max did not, know what was worst

The lightning the thunder or the, power reverse

Alone in the dark was there, darkest hour

Then they heard a familiar sound of, keys at the door

They jumped off the bed ran and, slid on the floor

The man was as happy, as the puppies

Because they knew it was, him with the keys

Wind, rain, lightning, thunder, power still off, dark as before

Now the storm did not seem as bad, as before

Because the man came back home, from the store

            Buddy & Max, did agree

            The man should, never leave

And the puppy would be safe at his side, evermore

Buddy & Max slept with the man, that night

Cuddled up next to him they had, no fright

Or needed to look under, the bed

They went right to sleep, instead

Buddy & Max felt that everything was, just right
