The First time

Buddy & Max 6 – At the dog park

Everything must have had a, first time

Must learn to walk before you, can climb

            To do, something new

            Should not, bother you

Just because it is your, first time.

Buddy & Max took the man for a walk, in the dog park

Every time they saw another dog they, began to bark

All the dogs had to be, on a leash

No dogs could run around, unleashed

They had a great time up until, it got real dark

Then the nighttime shadows began, to appear

In front all around and, to the rear

Buddy & Max began, to bark

At every shadow in, the park

The man assured them there was, nothing to fear

But that did not matter, to them

They began barking louder, again

            Other dogs began, to bark

Then all the dogs in, the park

Began barking along, with them

Then the night lights started, blinking

“They’re coming on” the man was, thinking

That will chase the shadows, away

            Turn nighttime, to day

Buddy & Max needed some, unthinking

It is always darkest just, before dawn

And before the lights, come on

First time in the, dog park

            Would make any, dog bark

If he did not know what was, going on

Buddy & Max are feeling better, and ok

They agreed to come again on a, different day

It won’t be their first time, anymore

They won’t be scared like, before

Now around the dog park they knew, their way

When they got back home from this, adventure

Buddy & Max needed a drink a real throat, quencher

            Nose-to-nose in the, drinking dish

They drank and drank, all they wish

Buddy & Max were ready for another, venture

Max began barking at something in, the yard

Buddy began barking and barking, real hard

What kind of animal, was it

He did not have a, permit

To be in Buddy & Max’s, backyard

Then their noses began to, tell the story

Their sniffer started taking, inventory

They did not have to, try very hard

They smelt another, dog in the yard

It was the neighbor’s new dog named, Lori

They begged the man to let, them both out

They ran out the door and let, out a shout

But the other dog was not, afraid

Lori did not run away, she stayed

That gave Buddy & Max a real turn-about

This was Buddy & Max’s, backyard

This other dog better be, on guard

Buddy & Max don’t take, to strays

Especially ones that don’t, run away

This dog was not trying, very hard

Then something got Buddy & Max’s, attention

And scent them thinking in a different, direction

            They both began, to fear

            What they had, found here

The first girl dog they met by their, recollection

Lori was very friendly but, a little pushy

She rubbed Buddy’s nose got, a little mushy

            Buddy was not, expecting this

Then she gave, Max a kiss

Buddy & Max both felt, a little fuzzy

Lori nibbled on, Buddy’s ear

He did not, shed a tear

            For it did, not hurt

            It was just, a flirt

That was, very clear

This was the first time Buddy & Max met, a girl dog

It was not as bad as they thought like falling, off a log

            Making friends with, someone new

It is easy if, you want to

As easy as playing, leapfrog
