The First Time

Buddy & Max 9 – In a Boat

Everything must have had a, first time

Must learn to walk before you, can climb

            To do, something new

            Should not, bother you

Just because it is your, first time.

The man wanted to take Buddy & Max, fishing

At first they thought he was just, kidding

Until they were on, their way

Off to the lake, that day

Buddy & Max had never even been, swimming

When they got to the lake, it was so wide

Buddy & Max could not see, the other side

This is their first time, in a boat

They hoped this, thing would float

The man told them he, would be their guide

The boat began to wiggle as Buddy & Max, got in

This is where all their troubles, begin

They were scared of the, deep lake

And they both began, to shake

What kind of a trap are they, caught in

Buddy & Max could not get, out of the boat

Again they hoped that, this thing would float

But what was their, biggest fear

Was when a speedboat, came to near

And splashed cold water all, over their coat

Things settled down and the man went, to fishing

To be on dry land Buddy & Max, were wishing

To be back home in, their bed

            But they are fishing, instead

Back home is what Buddy & Max, were missing

All of a sudden the man began, to shout

Buddy & Max did not know what, about

A fish was going after, his bate

They did not have too long, to wait

Then the man netted a big German, brown trout

So this is what the man called, fishing

As they watched the fish wiggling, twitching

The man was gentle as he took, out the hook

But this fish he would not take, home and cook

This fish he would set loose with his, blessing

Buddy & Max thought fishing was, not for them

This was something better, left for men

            Then the man, surprised them

            Because he, released him

Back into the water to be, caught again

The man enjoyed the thrill, of the sport

And conservation of fish he, did support

The one you, let get away

            Could be caught, another day

Let the big ones go and be, a good sport

He took the trout’s picture before turning, it loose

He was very careful the fish was not, abused

Then he laid it in the water, to let it go

The trout wiggled its tale, to let him know

Thank you for being kind there is no, excuse

Buddy & Max on the way home were, both thinking

They remembered the trout as they saw, it sinking

Under the water, out of sight

            Where would he, be tonight

Buddy & Max would have to do some, re-thinking

Buddy & Max were happy when they pulled into, their yard

Buddy & Max started whining and barking, real hard

Once again they were, home to stay

They did not like being, too far away

With kisses on the man’s ear they did, bombard

They could hardly wait for him to, open the door

There was something they had, been waiting for

            They were both, thinking

            About doing some, drinking

All that lake water made them, thirsty before

Buddy & Max road in a boat on, a deep lake

They had to be careful no room, for mistake

When you are, off dry land

And you want to get back, there again

Sometimes there are chances, you must take

Buddy & Max felt like, real seamen

With the man they would do, this again

It would not be their, first time

And they would have a, good time

Maybe fishing was not, just for men
